Virtues Of A Diamond Ring Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH FFII AAJJ KKLL AAAA

Of the strange virtues of a ringA
In simple strains we now will singA
Brave warrior of ancient FranceB
Where danger was he did advanceB
-
But he at last was struck by ballC
And on the battle field did fallC
They dug for him a shallow graveD
And slightly cover'd warrior braveD
-
But his servant man with warm heartE
Loathed with his master thus to partE
So he moved soil from where he layF
And found a lump of lifeless clayF
-
He turned away in sad despairG
That could not be his master fairG
That famed brave youth of noble birthH
Now all stained o'er with blood and earthH
-
As he begins to move awayF
The moon reflects on brilliant rayF
From diamond ring on dead man's fingerI
The servant now doth fondly lingerI
-
For he knows it's his master's ringA
And hopes to life he may him bringA
In finger he discovers heatJ
And hopes his heart it still may beatJ
-
Though surgeons they pronounce him deadK
For long he bathes his breast and headK
And slowly master did restoreL
To fight more brave than he had beforeL
-
And now this tale to close we bringA
Of warrior saved by a ringA
Full oft again to fight for kingA
His praise his countrymen they singA
