Hunter heard shrill cry of peacocks | B |
In Indian jungles go in flocks | B |

To crush a bird with beauteous wing | C |
But the tiger missed his aim | D |
And he hung his head with shame | D |

Then there came a mighty crush | E |
Of elephants rush through the bush | F |
The tiger cat like crouched on ground | G |
And elephants rushed in with bound | G |

In front was baby elephant | H |
To crush its bones did tiger want | I |
But mother saw fierce forest ranger | A |
And she gave a cry of danger | A |

Leader of herd he madly rushed | J |
Resolved the tiger should be crushed | J |
But tiger strove to run away | K |
Willing to relinquish prey | K |

But when he found that he must fight | L |
On elephant's back he strove to light | L |
But elephant struck him with his foot | M |
And then with tusks he did him root | N |

So now once more must praise be sung | O |
To beasts who nobly fight for young | O |
And grateful feelings were now stirred | P |
