In the year we were though but a boy at a fair atA
Cawdor Castle Readers of Shakespeare's Macbeth willB
have often found Cawdor mentioned therein the villageC
of Cawdor is but a few miles from Culloden Moor WhileD
we were there the old Highland people in their brokenE
English were declaring that the Stuarts were collectingF
arms and that the Clans were going to join them thoseG
gentlemen wore the Highland garb and were highly reH
spected They had lived in Cawdor for some years oneE
of them built a Hermitage of wicker work on high bankI
of river which remains entire and in good repair to theJ
present dayH

Long 'ere Her Majesty the QueenK
Had visited of AberdeenK
'Ere she in castle did abideL
'Mong glorious hills on the Dee sideL
Or visited each Highland glenM
Or won the hearts of HighlandmenM
There oft was seen in Highland dressN
Two Stuarts brave in InvernessN
Well worthy of the poet's lyreO
They claimed Prince Charlie as GrandsireO
And that they also did combineM
Stuart with Royal Polish lineM
Their names Sobieskie StuartP
They won many a Highland heartQ

But Royal order did go forthR
To build Balmoral Castle NorthR
Then woundrous change was quickly seenM
All hearts were captured by the QueenM
