Rhyme Scheme: AA BBACDC EEAA FGHH IIJJ KKLL MMNN BBOO MMCC

The following is a clipping from an old Ingersoll paperA
on St Andrew's Anniversary th NovemberA
-
The Anniversary of Scotia's tetular sic saint was celebrated on Monday with great eclatB
by a dinner at Mr Douglass' Hotel The spread on the occasion was excellent notB
only Scotia's sons but many who came from merry England and the Green Isle wereA
present After the cloth had been removed Mr McIntyre took the chair and Mr SorleyC
the vice chair Songs speeches and toasts became the order of the evening TheD
following original piece was rendered by Mr McIntyre in good styleC
-
Scotia's sons to night we meet theeE
With kindly feelings we do greet theeE
In honour of the land of HeatherA
Around this board to night we gatherA
-
Land where the fields for border edgesF
Have garlands of blooming hedgesG
Land of the whin and of the broomH
And where the bonnie blue bells bloomH
-
Land where you may enraptured harkI
To heavenly song of the sky larkI
Which soars triumphant to the skiesJ
Above the gaze of human eyesJ
-
Land of bleak hills and of fertile dalesK
Where they tell oft their fairy talesK
Land where the folks do love the KirkL
And on the Sabbath cease from workL
-
Land of porridge and of good broseM
Of blue bonnets and of Tartan hoseM
The land where all good wives do bakeN
The thirfty wholesome oaten cakeN
-
We hope some day to tread the strandB
Of our own dear native landB
And see the lasses shear the cornO
Near the banks of the FindhornO
-
Where the Jeans and the MaggiesM
Excel is making glorious haggiesM
And o'er the sea we'll some day sailC
To get a bowl of good green kailC
