Scottish Poets Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGFH IJIJ KLKM NONO APAP QRQS

The following ode was read by the author at the Centennial Anniversary of Burns in the yearA
-
-
This night shall never be forgotB
For humble life none now despiseC
Since Burns was born in lowly cotB
Whose muses wing soars to the skiesC
-
'Round Scotia's brow he wove a wreathD
And raised her name in classic storyE
A deathless fame he did bequeathD
His country's pride his country's gloryE
-
He sang her hills he sang her dalesF
Of Bonnie Doon and Banks of AyrG
Of death and Hornbook and such talesF
As Tam O'Shanter and his mareH
-
He bravely taught that manly worthI
More precious is than finest goldJ
He reckoned not on noble birthI
But noble deeds alone extolledJ
-
Where will we find behind the plowK
Or in the harvest field at toilL
Another youth sweet bard like thouK
Could draw the tear or raise the smileM
-
We do not think 'twas Burns' faultN
For there were no teetotalers thenO
That Willie brewed a peck of maltN
And Robin preed like other menO
-
'Tis true he loved the lasses dearA
But who for this would loudly blameP
For Scotia's maids his heart did cheerA
And love is a true heavenly flameP
-
So here we've met in distant landQ
Poor honest Robin to extolR
Though oft we differ let us standQ
United now in IngersollS
