My friends we sing Canadian themesB
For in them we proudly gloryC
Her lakes and rivers and her streamsB
Worthy of renown in storyC
And in these leaves we hope is strewnD
Some wheat among the chaffE
And maple boughs by rude axe hewnD
Where one may find a rustic staffE
To help him o'er the rugged linesF
If he to weariness inclinesF
Some see no beauties near to homeG
But do admire the distant farH
They always love abroad to roamG
View glory in but far off starH
But let it never be forgotI
That distant hills when closer seenJ
Are after all a barren spotI
Not like your own hills clad in greenJ
You'll find they are but idle dreamsB
To seek for happiness afarH
At home there's lovely lakes and streamsB
Remain content now where you areH
At us we hope you will not rageK
Because we sing of local charmsL
In each varied town and villageM
As well as round our local farmsL
But our address it must be briefN
So now we bid you all adieuO
But of our book pray read each leafN
Until the whole you have gone throughO
Each one doth know it is not wiseP
Though our songs may not be vocalQ
Chants of our home for to despiseP
But prize them 'cause they are localQ
