Prologue Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFGFGHIHIAGA GJKLKMNMNOPOP

My friends we sing Canadian themesA
For in them we proudly gloryB
Her lakes her rivers and her streamsA
Worthy of renown in storyB
And in these leaves we hope is strewnC
Some wheat among the chaffD
And maple boughs by rude axe hewnC
Where one may find a rustic staffD
To help him o'er the rugged linesE
Some see no beauties near to homeF
But do admire the distant farG
They always love abroad to roamF
View glory in but far off starG
But let it never be forgotH
That distant hills when closer seenI
Are after all a barren spotH
Not like your own hills clad in greenI
You'll find they are but idle dreamsA
To search for happiness afarG
At home there's lovely lakes and streamsA
Remain content now where you areG
At us we hope you will not rageJ
Because we sing of local charmsK
In each varied town and villageL
As well as round our rural farmsK
But our address it must be briefM
So we bid you now all adieuN
But of our book pray read each leafM
Until the whole you have gone throughN
Each one doth know it is not wiseO
Though our song may not be vocalP
Chants of our home for to despiseO
But prize them 'cause they are localP
