Prologue Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFGFGHIHIAGA GJKLKMNMNOPOP| My friends we sing Canadian themes | A |
| For in them we proudly glory | B |
| Her lakes her rivers and her streams | A |
| Worthy of renown in story | B |
| And in these leaves we hope is strewn | C |
| Some wheat among the chaff | D |
| And maple boughs by rude axe hewn | C |
| Where one may find a rustic staff | D |
| To help him o'er the rugged lines | E |
| Some see no beauties near to home | F |
| But do admire the distant far | G |
| They always love abroad to roam | F |
| View glory in but far off star | G |
| But let it never be forgot | H |
| That distant hills when closer seen | I |
| Are after all a barren spot | H |
| Not like your own hills clad in green | I |
| You'll find they are but idle dreams | A |
| To search for happiness afar | G |
| At home there's lovely lakes and streams | A |
| Remain content now where you are | G |
| At us we hope you will not rage | J |
| Because we sing of local charms | K |
| In each varied town and village | L |
| As well as round our rural farms | K |
| But our address it must be brief | M |
| So we bid you now all adieu | N |
| But of our book pray read each leaf | M |
| Until the whole you have gone through | N |
| Each one doth know it is not wise | O |
| Though our song may not be vocal | P |
| Chants of our home for to despise | O |
| But prize them 'cause they are local | P |
