When Father Ranney left the StatesA
In Canada to try the fatesA
He settled down in DerehamB
Then no dairyman lived near himB
He was the first there to squeezeC
His cows milk into good cheeseC
And at each Provincial ShowD
His famed cheese was all the goD
-
CHORUSE
Then long life to Father RanneyF
May he wealth and honor gain ayeG
-
He always took the first prizeH
Both for quality and sizeH
But many of his neighborsI
Now profit by his laborsI
And the ladies dress in silkJ
From the proceeds of the milkJ
But those who buy their butterK
' How dear it is ' they mutterK
-
CHORUSE
Then long life to Father RanneyF
May he his health retain ayeG
-
Farmers now can not be beatL
With their cheese and their wheatL
Though now their greatest care isM
For to watch o'er their dairiesC
They carefully fill their mowsN
With provender for their cowsN
And they thus enrich the soilO
With much profit for their toilO
-
CHORUSE
We will sing this refrain ayeG
Long life to Father RanneyF
-
The motto 'Union is Strength '-
Is carried out at lengthP
In the most compact arrayQ
At every cheese factoryF
You'll see without going as far asR
There is one kept by HarrisS
The factory of IngersollT
Just out at the first tollU
-
CHORUSE
May he never suffer pain ayeG
The father of cheesemen RanneyF
Or you may go all the wayQ
To see one kept by GallowayQ
And out in the NorwichesE
Dairymen are making richesE
And honor has been wonV
By Harvey FarringtonV
The same path is troddenV
By folks about CullodenV
-
CHORUSE
May his strength never wane ayeG
The great dairyman RanneyV
And of late we saw someB
Very good cheese from LawsonV
All around Mount ElginV
Dairymen have well doneV
And out in East NissouriF
They make some scores a dayQ
From Jarvis and ElliottW
Some good cheese is boughtX
-
CHORUSE
And we will all remain ayeG
Indebted to Father RanneyV
Now we close this glorious themeB
This song of curds and rich creamB
Subject worthy of our museE
You can buy your hoops and screwsE
Boxes and vats all things like theseE
In Ingersoll great mart for cheeseE
Here buyers all do congregateY
And pay for cheese the highest rateY
-
CHORUSE
So we call on you again ayeG
To honor Father RanneyV
