Oddfellowship Lines Read At Concert, 1883 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEF GGGHHIIJK LLMMNONPP

We look in vain for our Past GrandsA
Now scattered over many landsA
Now some o'er the wide world do roveB
And some have joined Grand Lodge aboveC
But ever since Father Adams' fallD
We are dependent creatures allD
Though man is weak yet he may joinE
With others strength for to combineF
-
The illustration it is grandG
Five Oddfellows in one handG
And yet they all united standG
Each finger hath a different lengthH
Each finger varies in its strengthH
Each one is weak but a firm fistI
You can scarcely break or twistI
'Tis same with members of a lodgeJ
United them you cannot budgeK
-
Then let us linked with pleasant chainL
Friendship love and truth maintainL
And aid our brothers in distressM
The widows and the orphans blessM
Then let each lodge strive all it canN
Both Oxford and SamaritanO
To aid distressed brother manN
Extending influence for goodP
And universal brotherhoodP
