Local Sketches Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC BDEE FFGG HIBD

On grassy amphitheatreA
Spectators sit to view the warB
'Mong bold contestants on the plainC
Where each doth strive the prize to gainC
-
Come witness the great tug of warB
And see great hammer thrown afarD
See running jumping highland flingE
At concert hear the skylark singE
-
And the bagpipes will send thrillsF
Like echoes from the distant hillsF
And the bold sound of the pibrochG
Which does resound o'er highland lochG
-
Young men and maids and fine old damesH
Will gather on the banks of ThamesI
And though we have a tug of warB
'Twill leave no wound or deadly scarD
