Lines Read At St. Andrew's Anniversary, 1868 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE FFGG HHII JJKK LLMM

Scotia's sons to night we meet theeA
With kindly feelings we do greet theeA
In honor of the land of heatherB
Around this board to night we gatherB
-
Land where the fields for border edgesC
Have garlands of blooming hedgesD
Land of the whin and of the broomE
And where the bonnie blue bells bloomE
-
Land where you may enraptured harkF
To heavenly song of the skylarkF
Which soars triumphant in the skiesG
Above the gaze of human eyesG
-
Land of bleak hills and fertile dalesH
Where they tell oft their fairy talesH
Land where the folks do love the kirkI
And on the Sabbath cease from workI
-
Land of porridge and of broseJ
Of blue bonnets and of tartan hoseJ
The land where all good wives do bakeK
The thrifty wholesome oaten cakeK
-
We hope some day to tread the strandL
Of our own dear native landL
And o'er the sea we'll some day sailM
To get a bowl of good green kailM
