Leach The Engineer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDEE FFGG HHII JJEE KLMM NNOO

The engineer who drives the trainA
From scalds he oft doth suffer painA
And they are more noble scarsB
Than hirelings gain in foreign warsC
-
Our hero's name should live foreverD
Train wrecked in Columbia RiverD
And fatal scalded was Frank LeachE
In mid the river far from beachE
-
Heroic deed it should be sungF
Though his flesh in ribbons hungF
He saw a man who could not swimG
And he resolved to rescue himG
-
And success his efforts crownedH
He saved the man from being drownedH
For him upon his back he boreI
And boldly swam with him to shoreI
-
Heroic deed we now enrollJ
And grave it deep on fame's scrollJ
For this great truth we wish to teachE
High 'mong our heroes ranks Frank LeachE
-
When he had but short time to liveK
His strength and skill he both did giveL
His poor fellow man to saveM
From laying in a watery graveM
-
The heroes oft in days of oldN
Were those who hired to fight for goldN
But the true heroes we revereO
Doth fight for home and country dearO
