Land Clearing Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH IIJK LLMM MMNN

The first winter which I did spendA
In Canada was with a friendA
And when the snow had passed awayB
Quite early in the month of MayB
-
Friend started off for a barn raisingC
And told me to get stumps ablazingC
Around each stump I heaped a pileD
Of roots and junks of wood so vileD
-
For he wished the field to clearE
So it a crop of wheat would rearE
And there was one high withered pineF
Which was full of turpentineF
-
As soon as I applied the torchG
Blaze quick did start and it did scorchG
The fences and the woods were nighH
For the old tree it blazed on highH
-
I was the only man or boyI
Near there that day and found employI
In saving of the house and barnJ
Thus early fire fiend did me warnK
-
Fire started and with it a breezeL
Carried the sparks 'mong leaves of treesL
I did work hard but for recompenseM
All was saved but a few rails of fenceM
-
Man in spring logging oft awakesM
From winter slumbers nests of snakesM
And listens to the music grandN
Of bull frogs our Canadian bandN
