In Canada was with a friend | A |
And when the snow had passed away | B |
Quite early in the month of May | B |

Friend started off for a barn raising | C |
And told me to get stumps ablazing | C |
Around each stump I heaped a pile | D |
Of roots and junks of wood so vile | D |

For he wished the field to clear | E |
So it a crop of wheat would rear | E |
And there was one high withered pine | F |
Which was full of turpentine | F |

As soon as I applied the torch | G |
Blaze quick did start and it did scorch | G |
The fences and the woods were nigh | H |
For the old tree it blazed on high | H |

I was the only man or boy | I |
Near there that day and found employ | I |
In saving of the house and barn | J |
Thus early fire fiend did me warn | K |

Fire started and with it a breeze | L |
Carried the sparks 'mong leaves of trees | L |
I did work hard but for recompense | M |
All was saved but a few rails of fence | M |

Man in spring logging oft awakes | M |
From winter slumbers nests of snakes | M |
And listens to the music grand | N |
Of bull frogs our Canadian band | N |
