Indian Romance Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB BBAA CCDE FFGH HGHH IIII JJAA KKGG

We know a hill is smooth and roundA
Where Indian relics may be foundA
This hill it hath a historyB
Though enveloped in mysteryB
-
All the youth do fondly gloryB
For to read an Indian storyB
This hill was ancient camping groundA
In creek near by did trout aboundA
-
And from hill top they caught a gleamC
Of the river's broader streamC
They came in their birch bark canoesD
Into this place of rendezvousE
-
When States did Canada invadeF
Great Indian host was here arrayedF
Here they rallied from near and farG
In eighteen hundred and twelve warH
-
Chief big Wolfe led them on to warH
And bade farewell to morning starG
He wedded her one year beforeH
And her he fondly did adoreH
-
To him she never seemed so sweetI
Her dress had beads worked o'er so neatI
And her toilet to completeI
Grand moccasins upon her feetI
-
Tribe marches and they boldly fightJ
Longside of Brock on Queenstown heightJ
With glory they do return crownedA
Into the hill so smooth and roundA
-
Here big Wolfe drank much fire waterK
And it led to his own slaughterK
His death alas did blast and marG
And dimmed the light of morning starG
