Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDEE FFGG

'Twas on a pleasant eve in MayA
Just as the sun shed its last rayA
The bell it rang citizens to warnB
For lo a fire appears in barnC
-
An ancient barn near hotel stoodD
The joining buildings all were woodD
This barn a relic of the pastE
There farmers' horses were made fastE
-
Our once fair town is now in woeF
And we have had our ChicagoF
But soon a nobler town will riseG
For our town is all enterpriseG
