Good Shot Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDCB EEFF GGHH IIAA JKLL MMCC

At great reunion of the SouthA
Of those had faced the cannon's mouthA
Where each could show a glorious scarB
He had received in the warC
-
And there was an artillery majorD
Said he I am free to wagerD
I fired the best shot in the warC
And fame of it was heard afarB
-
The Federals fired at us a shellE
And near our battery it fellE
It gave us momentary alarmF
But it caused us little harmF
-
For the fuse it ceased to burnG
And I resolved shell to returnG
To the same spot from whence it cameH
I put in fuse was sure to flameH
-
From mortar's mouth it went forthI
Seeking for vengeance on the NorthI
And this swift messenger from SouthA
It entered their great cannon's mouthA
-
And blew the gun all into atomsJ
Which left desolate many homesK
But North had justice on her sideL
In truth and virtue was her prideL
-
And high Heaven had well decreedM
That the poor slave he should be freedM
And even the South doth prosper moreC
With freedom than she did beforeC
