Rhyme Scheme: ABCC DEFF EEGG HHII| One day while passing 'long the road | A |
| On a small book we almost trod | B |
| Its leaves were scattered o'er the ground | C |
| We picked them up and when we found | C |
| - | |
| The author's name it did inspire | D |
| Us with a very strong desire | E |
| To read the little volume through | F |
| For most of it to us was new | F |
| - | |
| He doth sing of land of heather | E |
| And Canadian scenes together | E |
| He did adore Niagara's roar | G |
| Where mighty flood o'er falls doth pour | G |
| - | |
| But poet's lives are often brief | H |
| And he lead his full share of grief | H |
| Which to his life did gloom impart | I |
| But he bore up with his brave heart | I |
