George Menzies' Poems, 1883 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDD EAFF AAGG HHII

About one third of a century ago there flourished in Canada three Scottish editors all of whom were poets McQueen of the Huron Signal Goderich who wrote a grand song on Our Broad Lake and McGeorge of the Streetsville Review The following lines are on George Menzies who was a Woodstock editorA
-
-
One day while passing 'long the roadB
On a small book we almost trodC
Its leaves were scattered o'er the groundD
We picked them up and when we foundD
-
The author's name it did inspireE
Us with a very strong desireA
To read the little volume throughF
For most of it to us was newF
-
He doth sing of land of heatherA
And Canadian scenes togetherA
He did adore Niagara's roarG
Where mighty flood o'er fall doth pourG
-
But poets lives are often briefH
And he had his full share of griefH
Which to his life did gloom impartI
But he bore up with his brave heartI
