Four Acre Farm Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB AACC DDEE FFGG HHII JJKL MMBB NNOO

This is a tale but it is truthA
Of maiden lady named RuthA
She owned a small four acre farmB
Which possessed some rural charmB
-
This maiden she was past her youthA
But none e're fell in love with RuthA
Though you must not infer from thenceC
That she possessed not grace nor senseC
-
She was handsome in her dayD
But beauty quickly fades awayD
Good vegetables and fine rootsE
She growed and choicest kind of fruitsE
-
And a first class good milch cowF
She kept and a fine breeding sowF
Her butter high price did commandG
Cow fed on best of pasture landG
-
On it was pond where swam her geeseH
From small flock of sheep she sheared fleeceH
And thus she passed year after yearI
Her cares they kept her in good cheerI
-
Each year she raised large chicken broodJ
And for them she grew lots of foodJ
In winter time it was her ruleK
To knit and spin up her own woolL
-
And thus her uneventful lifeM
Doth pass without jar or strifeM
'Tis seldom she e're feels alarmB
But quietly tills her little farmB
-
To plow her little fields of courseN
She does require to drive her horseN
This little pony looks quite smartO
Drawing old maid in little cartO
