Fighting For Conquest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCB DEFE GHIH JBBK

'Tis noble for to fight for homeA
But some nations fight to plunderB
For conquest o'er the world to roamA
To tear peaceful lands asunderB
-
For to give wealth and a great nameC
To some aspiring commanderB
Who wishes to acquire great fameC
As a modern AlexanderB
-
Statesmen and kings a war will wageD
And many thousands strew the plainE
Covered with gore in the carnageF
Where brave and noble men are slainE
-
Leaving their families to mournG
Now who can soothe the ills of lifeH
To them they never shall returnI
No one can now cheer the poor wifeH
-
Or the sweet little orphans dearJ
Think of father and of motherB
Of sweetheart sister and of brotherB
Who oft will shed the fruitless tearK
