With hatchet ice they did clear | L |
And the beauteous trout did spear | L |

For they were longing for a dish | M |
Of this sweet and savory fish | M |
And they caught many too with bait | N |
For in the day it was not late | N |
But it was cloudy with snow storm | I |

For with fell swoop the paws of bruin | V |
To him they almost did bring ruin | D |
But he so dexterously did skate | N |
That he escaped such horrid fate | N |
And now they skated back to fort | F |
For aid for to renew the sport | F |

They saw the elder bushes sway | H |

Where he went through he left a gap | Z |
They skated swiftly o 'er the ice | A2 |
And were near brushwood in a trice | A2 |
Full soon the savage beast is slain | B2 |
With rifle bullet in his brain | B2 |
And now these hunters do take pride | C2 |
In skin as large as buffalo hide | C2 |
For Indian stripped the skin of bear | Q |
