Donald Ross Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDDEEFG HHIIDDFG JJKLMMNN OODDPPNG QQRRDDGG

A Scottish Canadian taleA
-
By the side of mossB
Lived young Donald RossC
Among the heathery hillsD
And the mountain rillsD
In a snug little cotE
Content with his lotE
He never knew sorrowF
With his wife and wee FloraG
-
But an order went forthH
O'er the land of the northH
To burn many a homeI
So the wild deer might roamI
With grief he then did tossD
All that night Donald RossD
And sad seemed the morrowF
For his wife and sma' FloraG
-
Oh it was a cruel deedJ
But nobles do not heedJ
The sorrows of the poorK
Drove on a barren moorL
Where he wove a wreathM
Of the blooming heathM
For to crown with gloryN
The brow of little FloryN
-
He then bade farewellO
To his mountain dellO
Where his fathers appearsD
Had lived a thousand yearsD
With their few goats and sheepP
Which fed on hills so steepP
Oh it was a sad storyN
For bonnie little FloraG
-
He sought a distant strandQ
In Canada bought landQ
To him a glorious charmR
To view his own broad farmR
His horses and his cowsD
Cultivators and plowsD
And now his daughter FloraG
She is the flower of ZorraG
