Departed Statesmen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCC DDEF GGHH IIFF

Lines on our departed Canadian Statesmen with a glance at our two living leadersA
-
Joseph Howe none higher stood than thouB
Thou wert a man with lofty browB
D'Arcey McGee so brillant and freeC
From Green Isle you came 'oer the seaC
-
George Cartier to the French ever dearD
So high you stood without a peerD
John Sandfield for long you did buildE
Power under economy's shieldF
-
George Brown thou man of renownG
Confederation you did crownG
You now are all free from the strifeH
The wrangle and jangle of political lifeH
-
But if a glance at this world you takeI
You will there see John A and BlakeI
But Sir John the greatest power doth wieldF
Our Canadian BeaconsfieldF
