Cheese buyers in hours of leisure | A |
Combine business with pleasure | A |
And when they wish to go abroad | B |
They take their gun and fishing rod | C |

This tale is true we pledge our word | D |
They baited hook with a piece of curd | D |
And let the rod hang from the boat | E |
While curd and hook on pond did float | E |

And then they start for sport and fun | F |
To try their luck with the shot gun | F |
And quick they raised from their cover | A |
Then brought low eight brace of plover | A |

Now to the pond they do return | G |
But loss of rod they have to mourn | H |
They see it rushing through the water | A |
And wonder what can be the matter | A |

But the courage of young Grant | I |
It did not for a moment daunt | J |
Though rod it now is far beyond | K |
He plunged into deep cold spring pond | K |

And seized his rod and then drew out | L |
A beauteous seven pound trout | L |
Which had grown from the seed | M |
From spawn of California breed | M |

And Californian in its greed | M |
On the sweet curd wished to feed | M |
But alas for it's sad fate | N |
It swallowed hook along with bait | N |
