But in Canada is oft seen | A |
By far more jolly times than these | B |
At logging raising paring bees | B |
For here the youth is not afraid | C |
To dance long side of pretty maid | C |
For this at night is his reward | D |
For working at the bee so hard | E |
And oft times till the break of day | F |
At forfeits they will merry play | F |
For he doth win e'en though he miss | G |
If from sweet lass he gets a kiss | G |
But in its place loth justly prize | H |
His tea and cakes and pumpkin pies | H |
- | |
When winter comes it brings no gloom | I |
But makes fresh pleasures spring and bloom | I |
For when the youth longs for a bride | J |
He gives his girl a grand sleigh ride | J |
Which to them both doth pleasures bring | K |
While merry sleigh bells cheery ring | K |
And with the fair maid of his choice | L |
He graceful skates with her on ice | M |
Charming mode of locomotion | N |
Gliding o'er a polished ocean | N |
Such joys they soon do love evolve | O |
And they on union do resolve | O |
He is happy with his chosen | N |
For warm love gets never frozen | N |
- | |
And young folks oft they do take pride | J |
How swift they down the hill can glide | J |
And they bravely dare the forest king | K |
So they may enjoy the coasting | K |
Each striving for to lead the van | P |
In the swift shooting toboggan | N |
- | |
And on the ice men love to hurl | Q |
The polished blocks to skilful curl | Q |
And curlers all do proudly claim | R |
Their's is a manly healthy game | R |
And in Canadians you trace | S |
A generous hardy and brave race | S |
- | |
And brilliant as a fairy hall | T |
Is scenes on ice at carnival | U |
Before the gale in an ice boat | V |
It swiftly o'er the ice doth float | V |
The sensation is you fly | W |
Like lightning shooting through the sky | W |
- | |
In summer time the youth do toss | X |
The ball at the keen game lacrosse | X |
And tradition doth for it claim | R |
That it is ancient Indian game | R |
And if a foe invade we can | P |
Drive them back with clubs Canadian | N |
