Canadian Hunter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDE FFDB GGBB HHDD IJKE LLDE

Of Kentucky's great hunter boldA
Old Daniel Boone oft tales are toldA
Of wild beasts he had no fearB
But dangers loved that pioneerB
-
Canada has hunters manyC
Yet perhaps there is not anyC
For skill and boldness can compareD
With our own Daniel HebnerE
-
In youth he was both tall and strongF
And supple as a willow thongF
He never fled from savage bearD
Though bruin on hind legs would rearB
-
In hunting mink or fox or coonG
He was a second Daniel BooneG
His rifle oft brought down the deerB
Which to his table brought good cheerB
-
But through his life his highest aimH
Was to kill the savage gameH
To track the wild cat to its lairD
And see its eyes so fiercely glareD
-
But he oft longs for a cut hamI
Sweet as from bear near to PutnamJ
For he waged his fiercest warK
In big swamp of DorchesterE
-
Now in the winter Dan he ridesL
Warm 'mong his bear and coon skin hidesL
He lets the younger men now snareD
The beaver muskrat and otterE
