Caledonia Springs, New York Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EFBB GGHI JJAA AAKK

The water spouts up from the groundA
And there doth form a pond aroundA
'Tis fed from no apparent rillsB
And it near by drives several millsB
-
And here the little ponds are seenC
Where fish are propogate by GreenC
Fish hatcheries here had their birthD
And now they're spread o'er all the earthD
-
Here in each pond thousands of troutE
Rush around their circular routeF
Of various breeds age and sizeB
Speckled o'er with various dyesB
-
Geologists do gaze with prideG
On specimens all petrifiedG
Here church is built of those rare stoneH
Fish reptiles birds in days bygoneI
-
Strange thoughts in mind it doth awakeJ
As it is far from sea and lakeJ
Even the hill tops do aboundA
With proofs here flowed the sea profoundA
-
With reverence we gaze aroundA
On an ancient burial groundA
Those who once did tread the heatherK
Now rest quietly here togetherK
