Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGFHI JKFB LLMM GGNN OOPP MMHH

The following sonnet on Brodie Castle Nairnshire Scotland was writtenA
by my venerable Uncle Thomas McIntyre of St Catherines and fatherB
of John B McIntyre Ex Grand Master of the Independant Order of OddC
fellows and now and for many years an Alderman of the city ofD
St Catherines It was written by him as an acrostic on the words BrodieE
Castle I have taken the liberty of transfusing it into common verse TheF
lines prove the old gentlemen to be kind hearted and as having a greatG
affection for his native land He has been in St Catherines for half aF
century engaged in the same business I have been employed in forH
about one third of a century in IngersollI
-
Scotland has produced three great shepherdsJ
Talford the inventor of Suspension BridgesK
Ferguson the Astronomer and Hogg theF
Ettrick shepherd the great song writerB
-
Brodie Castle ever dear to my heartL
For there I first played my humble partL
When only thirteen I there had employM
In the position of a shepherd boyM
-
For I was born on that fine estateG
Famed for its trees so lofty and greatG
And its magnificent avenue grandN
Which hath been famed over the landN
-
And though I did leave to learn my tradeO
And in Western world a home I have madeO
Yet whan I look back my heart it still cheersP
Though it is now more than threescore yearsP
-
Since first I went there as a shepherd boyM
Thoughts of the time fill my heart yet with joyM
Though that I ne'er shall see Castle moreH
Fond memory reverts to the days of yoreH
