A fable of the British and Russian dispute ofA
-
-
Russians suffer sad distressB
For lack of freedom of the pressB
But oft' times they are full ableC
To enlighten with a fableC
-
And they enjoy a humorous taleD
Of a bear and monster whaleD
The bear he went to the sea shoreE
The mighty ocean to exploreE
-
And this it quick enraged the whaleD
Who beat the ocean with his tailD
With foaming words he told the bearF
That he would strip his hide and hairF
-
If he ever found him moreE
Encroaching on his sea shoreE
The bear replied I will not quailD
At frothing words of any whaleD
-
For you are a lump of blubberG
Whale rejoined you are land lubberG
Thus bandying epithets so vileH
Of bear grease and of whale oilI
-
Sharks and fishes of the oceanJ
Were thrown into great commotionJ
The hawks and eagles of the airF
Lions and tigers gathered thereF
-
Bear he wished the whale to slaughterG
But he was afraid of waterG
The great whale feared that he might strandK
If he ventured on the dry landK
-
So at last great Russia BearF
Went back again to his own lairF
And British whale content to beL
Greatest monarch of the seaL
