Strange incidents do happen everA
On the famed Niagara riverA
This thought to mind it now recallsB
Event three miles above the fallsB
-
Thrilling ventures there aboundC
A bear which weighed eight hundred poundsD
Hunters they do him discoverA
As he was swimming down the riverA
-
They felt he would be glorious prizeE
This grand fat bear of mighty sizeE
Three men they jump'd into canoeF
A skilful and determined crewF
-
Soon alongside of him they rowG
But kindly feelings he doth showG
Quick he scrambled o'er the boat sideH
For to enjoy a good boat rideH
-
And as o'er the side he straddlesI
They hit him on head with paddlesI
But all in vain so two of crewF
A short time bade the bear adieuF
-
And soon they swiftly swam to shoreJ
But current down the river boreJ
Man bear and boat the sound appalsI
Of roaring mighty water fallsI
-
But vigorous now he plys the oarJ
In hopes to safely reach the shoreJ
But this made bear to grin and growlK
And wear on brow a horrid scowlK
-
So poor man sore against his willL
Finds that in boat he must keep stillL
Or else be hugged to death by bearM
While sound of falls becomes more nearN
-
But his two friends so brave and trueF
Row quick 'longside in a canoeF
And fire in bruin leaden ballsI
Thus saving friend from bear and fallsI
