Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDAA EEFF GGHH IIFF JJII JJKK LLMN FFIIStrange incidents do happen ever | A |
On the famed Niagara river | A |
This thought to mind it now recalls | B |
Event three miles above the falls | B |
- | |
Thrilling ventures there abound | C |
A bear which weighed eight hundred pounds | D |
Hunters they do him discover | A |
As he was swimming down the river | A |
- | |
They felt he would be glorious prize | E |
This grand fat bear of mighty size | E |
Three men they jump'd into canoe | F |
A skilful and determined crew | F |
- | |
Soon alongside of him they row | G |
But kindly feelings he doth show | G |
Quick he scrambled o'er the boat side | H |
For to enjoy a good boat ride | H |
- | |
And as o'er the side he straddles | I |
They hit him on head with paddles | I |
But all in vain so two of crew | F |
A short time bade the bear adieu | F |
- | |
And soon they swiftly swam to shore | J |
But current down the river bore | J |
Man bear and boat the sound appals | I |
Of roaring mighty water falls | I |
- | |
But vigorous now he plys the oar | J |
In hopes to safely reach the shore | J |
But this made bear to grin and growl | K |
And wear on brow a horrid scowl | K |
- | |
So poor man sore against his will | L |
Finds that in boat he must keep still | L |
Or else be hugged to death by bear | M |
While sound of falls becomes more near | N |
- | |
But his two friends so brave and true | F |
Row quick 'longside in a canoe | F |
And fire in bruin leaden balls | I |
Thus saving friend from bear and falls | I |
