Arms And The Man. - The Ravages Of War Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHGI JKJK ELEL MNMN

This on the water on the land a sceneA
Whose Epic scope is far beyond my powerB
For on this spot a People's fate hath beenC
Decided in an hourB
-
Long was the conflict waged through weary yearsD
Counted from when the sturdy farmers fellE
Hopes crucified red trenches bitter tearsF
Made Man another hellE
-
See pallid women girt in woe and weedsG
See little children gaunt for lack of foodH
Behold the catalogue of War's black deedsG
Where evil stands for goodI
-
See slaughtered cattle never more to roamJ
Rot in the fields while chimneys tall and bareK
Tell in dumb pathos how some quiet homeJ
Lit up the midnight airK
-
See that burnt crop yon choked up sylvan wellE
This yeoman slain ye corven in the sunL
My GOD shreds of a woman's dress to tellE
Why murder there was doneL
-
Such things as these gave edge to all the blowsM
Our fathers struck on this historic sodN
Feet hands and faces turned toward their foesM
Their valiant hearts to GODN
