The Journey Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCADE FGHIJ JK LJCMNNNOPQ JR SJJCJJJJTJJ

Anghiari is medieval a sleeve sloping downA
A steep hill suddenly sweeping outB
To the edge of a cliff and dwindlingC
But far up the mountain behind the townA
We too were swept out out by the windD
Alone with the Tuscan grassE
-
Wind had been blowing across the hillsF
For days and everything now was graying goldG
With dust everything we saw evenH
Some small children scampering along a roadI
Twittering Italian to a small caged birdJ
-
We sat beside them to rest in some brushwoodJ
And I leaned down to rinse the dust from my faceK
-
I found the spider web there whose hingesL
Reeled heavily and crazily with the dustJ
Whole mounds and cemeteries of it saggingC
And scattering shadows among shells and wingsM
And then she stepped into the center of airN
Slender and fastidious the golden hairN
Of daylight along her shoulders she poised thereN
While ruins crumbled on every side of herO
Free of the dust as though a moment beforeP
She had stepped inside the earth to bathe herselfQ
-
I gazed close to her till at last she steppedJ
Away in her own good timeR
-
Many menS
Have searched all over Tuscany and never foundJ
What I found there the heart of the lightJ
Itself shelled and leaved balancingC
On filaments themselves falling The secretJ
Of this journey is to let the windJ
Blow its dust all over your bodyJ
To let it go on blowing to step lightly lightlyJ
All the way through your ruins and not to loseT
Any sleep over the dead who surelyJ
Will bury their own don't worryJ
