| A nice mess we called them | G |
| and ate with our fingers laughing | H |

| Once dreaming of fish in far off waters | I |
| I hooked a two foot carp in Michigan | J |
| on nylon line so fine | K |
| a fellow fisher shook his head | L |
| He'll break it sure he'll roll on it and get away | M |
| A quarter hour it took to bring him in | F |
| back and forth toward my net | N |
| syllable by syllable I let him have his way | M |
| till he lay flopping on the grass | O |
| beside no other himself enough in size | P |
| he fed the three of us each differently | Q |
| new strategies of hook leader line and rod | R |

| Working well I am a deep water man | S |
| a Daredevil silver wobbler | B |
| my lure for lake trout in midsummer | B |

| Oh I have tried the moon thermometers | I |
| the bait and time and place all by the rule | T |

| the imperial muskellunge in Minnesota | V |
| the peerless pike in Canada | V |
| I have propped a well thumbed book | W |
| against the butt of my favorite rod | R |
| and fished from my heart | X |
