Poet As Fisherman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEFBGH IJKLMFNMOPQR SBB ITUVVWRX IYBYBZAB

I fish for wordsA
to say what I fish forB
half catch sometimesC
-
I have caught little pan fish flashing sunlightD
yellow perch crappies blue gillsE
lighthearted reeled them inF
filed them on stringers on the shoreB
A nice mess we called themG
and ate with our fingers laughingH
-
Once dreaming of fish in far off watersI
I hooked a two foot carp in MichiganJ
on nylon line so fineK
a fellow fisher shook his headL
He'll break it sure he'll roll on it and get awayM
A quarter hour it took to bring him inF
back and forth toward my netN
syllable by syllable I let him have his wayM
till he lay flopping on the grassO
beside no other himself enough in sizeP
he fed the three of us each differentlyQ
new strategies of hook leader line and rodR
-
Working well I am a deep water manS
a Daredevil silver wobblerB
my lure for lake trout in midsummerB
-
Oh I have tried the moon thermometersI
the bait and time and place all by the ruleT
fishing for the masterpieceU
the imperial muskellunge in MinnesotaV
the peerless pike in CanadaV
I have propped a well thumbed bookW
against the butt of my favorite rodR
and fished from my heartX
-
Yet for my laborsI
all I have to showY
are tactics loreB
so little I knowY
of that pea sized brain I am casting forB
to think it could swimZ
with the phantom wordsA
that lure me to this shoreB
