-any Fool Can Get Into An Ocean . . . Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEBFGHIJKFLMNOPQ ACD

Any fool can get into an oceanA
But it takes a GoddessB
To get out of oneA
What s true of oceans is true of courseC
Of labyrinths and poems When you start swimmingD
Through riptide of rhythms and the metaphor s seaweedE
You need to be a good swimmer or a born GoddessB
To get back out of themF
Look at the sea otters bobbing wildlyG
Out in the middle of the poemH
They look so eager and peaceful playing out there where theI
water hardly movesJ
You might get out through all the waves and rocksK
Into the middle of the poem to touch themF
But when you ve tried the blessed water longL
Enough to want to start backwardM
That s when the fun startsN
Unless you re a poet or an otter or something supernaturalO
You ll drown dear You ll drownP
Any Greek can get you into a labyrinthQ
But it takes a hero to get out of oneA
What s true of labyrinths is true of courseC
Of love and memory When you start rememberingD
