The Incomprehensible Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDC EFEGFHIIHJJKEEK

FAR in the Heavens my God retiresA
My God the mark of my desiresB
And hides his lovely faceC
When he descends within my viewD
He charms my reason to pursueD
But leaves it tir d and fainting in th unequal chaseC
-
Or if I reach unusual heightE
Till near his presence broughtF
There floods of glory check my flightE
Cramp the bold pinions of my witG
And all untune my thoughtF
Plunged in a sea of light I rollH
Where wisdom justice mercy shinesI
Infinite rays in crossing linesI
Beat thick confusion on my sight and overwhelm my soulH
Great God behold my reason liesJ
Adoring yet my love would riseJ
On pinions not her ownK
Faith shall direct her humble flightE
Through all the trackless seas of lightE
To Thee th Eternal Fair the infinite UnknownK
