God is the refuge of his saintsA
When storms of sharp distress invadeB
Ere we can offer our complaintsA
Behold him present with his aidB
-
Let mountains from their seats be hurledC
Down to the deep and buried thereD
Convulsions shake the solid worldC
Our faith shall never yield to fearE
-
Loud may the troubled ocean roarF
In sacred peace our souls abideG
While every nation every shoreF
Trembles and dreads the swelling tideG
-
There is a stream whose gentle flowH
Supplies the city of our GodI
Life love and joy still gliding throughJ
And watering our divine abodeK
-
Zion enjoys her monarch's loveL
Secure against the threatening hourM
Nor can her firm foundation moveN
Built on his faithfulness and powerM
-
Let Zion in her King rejoiceO
Though Satan rage and kingdoms riseP
He utters his almighty voiceO
The nations melt the tumult diesP
-
The Lord of old for Jacob foughtQ
And Jacob's God is still our aidB
Behold the works his hand hath wroughtQ
What desolations he hath madeB
-
From sea to sea through all their shoresR
He makes the noise of battle ceaseS
When from on high his thunder roarsR
He awes the trembling world to peaceS
-
He breaks the bow he cuts the spearE
Chariots he burns with heavenly flameT
Keep silence all the earth and hearU
The sound and glory of his nameT
-
Be still and learn that I am GodI
Exalted over all the landsV
I will be known and feared abroadW
For still my throne in Zion standsV
-
O Lord of hosts almighty KingX
While we so near thy presence dwellY
Our faith shall rest secure and singX
Defiance to the gates of hellY
