Psalm 78 Part 3 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A ABAB CDCE FGHG BIBJ KLKL FBFB MANA OCOC

The punishment of luxury and intemperanceA
-
When Isr'el sins the Lord reprovesA
And fills their hearts with dreadB
Yet he forgives the men he lovesA
And sends them heav'nly breadB
-
He fed them with a lib'ral handC
And made his treasures knownD
He gave the midnight clouds commandC
To pour provision downE
-
The manna like a morning showerF
Lay thick around their feetG
The corn of heav'n so light so pureH
As though 'twere angels' meatG
-
But they in murm'ring language saidB
Manna is all our feastI
We loathe this light this airy breadB
We must have flesh to tasteJ
-
Ye shall have flesh to please your lustK
The Lord in wrath repliedL
And sent them quails like sand or dustK
Heaped up from side to sideL
-
He gave them all their own desireF
And greedy as they fedB
His vengeance burnt with secret fireF
And smote the rebels deadB
-
When some were slain the rest returnedM
And sought the Lord with tearsA
Under the rod they feared and mournedN
But soon forgot their fearsA
-
Oft he chastised and still forgaveO
Till by his gracious handC
The nation he resolved to saveO
Possessed the promised landC
