Rhyme Scheme: AA BCBD EFEF GHGI JKJL MNMN OAOA PQPR STST

Power and government from God aloneA
Applied to the glorious Revolution by King William or the happy accession of King George to the throneA
-
To thee most Holy and most HighB
To thee we bring our thankful praiseC
Thy works declare thy name is nighB
Thy works of wonder and of graceD
-
Britain was doomed to be a slaveE
Her frame dissolved her fears were greatF
When God a new supporter gaveE
To bear the pillars of the stateF
-
He from thy hand received his crownG
And sware to rule by wholesome lawsH
His foot shall tread th' oppressor downG
His arm defend the righteous causeI
-
Let haughty sinners sink their prideJ
Nor lift so high their scornful headK
But lay their foolish thoughts asideJ
And own the king that God hath madeL
-
Such honors never come by chanceM
Nor do the winds promotion blowN
'Tis God the Judge doth one advanceM
'Tis God that lays another lowN
-
No vain pretence to royal birthO
Shall fix a tyrant on the throneA
God the great Sovereign of the earthO
Will rise and make his justice knownA
-
His hand holds out the dreadful cupP
Of vengeance mixed with various plaguesQ
To make the wicked drink them upP
Wring out and taste the bitter dregsR
-
Now shall the Lord exalt the justS
And while he tramples on the proudT
And lays their glory in the dustS
My lips shall sing his praise aloudT
