Support for the afflicted and tempted soulC
-
O God my refuge hear my criesD
Behold my flowing tearsE
For earth and hell my hurt deviseD
And triumph in my fearsF
-
Their rage is leveled at my lifeG
My soul with guilt they loadH
And fill my thoughts with inward strifeG
To shake my hope in GodI
-
With inward pain my heart strings soundJ
I groan with ev'ry breathK
Horror and fear beset me roundJ
Amongst the shades of deathK
-
O were I like a feathered doveL
And innocence had wingsM
I'd fly and make a long removeN
From all these restless thingsM
-
Let me to some wild desert goO
And find a peaceful homeP
Where storms of malice never blowO
Temptations never comeQ
-
Vain hopes and vain inventions allR
To 'scape the rage of hellS
The mighty God on whom I callR
Can save me here as wellS
-
PAUSET
-
By morning light I'll seek his faceU
At noon repeat my cryV
The night shall hear me ask his graceU
Nor will he long denyV
-
God shall preserve my soul from fearW
Or shield me when afraidX
Ten thousand angels must appearW
If he command their aidX
-
I cast my burdens on the LordY
The Lord sustains them allR
My courage rests upon his wordZ
That saints shall never fallR
-
My highest hopes shall not be vainA2
My lips shall spread his praiseB2
While cruel and deceitful menC2
Scarce live out half their daysB2
