Charity to the poorC

Why do the wealthy wicked boastD
And grow profanely boldE
The meanest portion of the justF
Excels the sinner's goldE
-
The wicked borrows of his friendsG
But ne'er designs to payH
The saint is merciful and lendsG
Nor turns the poor awayH
-
His alms with lib'ral heart he givesI
Amongst the sons of needJ
His mem'ry to long ages livesI
And blessed is his seedJ
-
His lips abhor to talk profaneK
To slander or defraudL
His ready tongue declares to menM
What he has learned of GodN
-
The law and gospel of the LordO
Deep in his heart abideP
Led by the Spirit and the wordQ
His feet shall never slideP
-
When sinners fall the righteous standR
Preserved from every snareS
They shall possess the promised landR
And dwell for ever thereS
