Instruction from scriptureA
-
verA
-
How shall the young secure their heartsB
And guard their lives from sinC
Thy word the choicest rules impartsB
To keep the conscience cleanD
-
verA
-
When once it enters to the mindE
It spreads such light abroadF
The meanest souls instruction findE
And raise their thoughts to GodG
-
verA
-
'Tis like the sun a heav'nly lightH
That guides us all the dayI
And through the dangers of the nightH
A lamp to lead our wayI
-
verA
-
The men that keep thy law with careJ
And meditate thy wordK
Grow wiser than their teachers areL
And better know the LordM
-
verA
-
Thy precepts make me truly wiseN
I hate the sinner's roadO
I hate my own vain thoughts that riseN
But love thy law my GodG
-
verA
-
The starry heavens thy rule obeyI
The earth maintains her placeP
And these thy servants night and dayI
Thy skill and power expressQ
-
But still thy law and gospel LordM
Have lessons more divineR
Not earth stands firmer than thy wordK
Nor stars so nobly shineR
-
verA
-
Thy word is everlasting truthS
How pure is every pageT
That holy book shall guide our youthS
And well support our ageT
