Love to enemies from the example of ChristC
-
God of my mercy and my praiseD
Thy glory is my songE
Though sinners speak against thy graceF
With a blaspheming tongueG
-
When in the form of mortal manH
Thy Son on earth was foundI
With cruel slanders false and vainJ
They compassed him aroundI
-
Their miseries his compassion moveK
Their peace he still pursuedL
They render hatred for his loveM
And evil for his goodN
-
Their malice raged without a causeO
Yet with his dying breathP
He prayed for murderers on his crossQ
And blessed his foes in deathP
-
Lord shall thy bright example shineR
In vain before my eyesS
Give me a soul akin to thineR
To love my enemiesT
-
The Lord shall on my side engageU
And in my Savior's nameV
I shall defeat their pride and rageU
Who slander and condemnB
