Hymn 97 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CCDD EFGH IJKL MMNO GHPP

Christ our wisdom righteousness etcA
-
CorB
-
Buried in shadows of the nightC
We lie till Christ restores the lightC
Wisdom descends to heal the blindD
And chase the darkness of the mindD
-
Our guilty souls are drowned in tearsE
Till his atoning blood appearsF
Then we awake from deep distressG
And sing The Lord our RighteousnessH
-
Our very frame is mixed with sinI
His Spirit makes our natures cleanJ
Such virtues from his suff'rings flowK
At once to cleanse and pardon tooL
-
Jesus beholds where Satan reignsM
Binding his slaves in heavy chainsM
He sets the pris'ners free and breaksN
The iron bondage from our necksO
-
Poor helpless worms in thee possessG
Grace wisdom power and righteousnessH
Thou art our mighty All and weP
Give our whole selves O Lord to theeP
