Hymn 80 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CBDB EFGH IJIJ KBKB LMNM HOPO

An evening hymnA
-
PsaB
-
Thus far the Lord has led me onC
Thus far his power prolongs my daysB
And every evening shall make knownD
Some fresh memorial of his graceB
-
Much of my time has run to wasteE
And I perhaps am near my homeF
But he forgives my follies pastG
He gives me strength for days to comeH
-
I lay my body down to sleepI
Peace is the pillow for my headJ
While well appointed angels keepI
Their watchful stations round my bedJ
-
In vain the sons of earth or hellK
Tell me a thousand frightful thingsB
My God in safety makes me dwellK
Beneath the shadow of his wingsB
-
Faith in his name forbids my fearL
O may thy presence ne'er departM
And in the morning make me hearN
The love and kindness of thy heartM
-
Thus when the night of death shall comeH
My flesh shall rest beneath the groundO
And wait thy voice to rouse my tombP
With sweet salvation in the soundO
