The description of Christ the belovedA
-
SSB
-
The wond'ring world inquires to knowC
Why I should love my Jesus soC
What are his charms say they aboveD
The objects of a mortal loveD
-
Yes my Beloved to my sightE
Shows a sweet mixture red and whiteE
All human beauties all divineF
In my Beloved meet and shineF
-
White is his soul from blemish freeG
Red with the blood he shed for meG
The fairest of ten thousand fairsB
A sun amongst ten thousand starsB
-
His head the finest gold excelsB
There wisdom in perfection dwellsB
And glory like a crown adornsB
Those temples once beset with thornsB
-
Compassion's in his heart are foundH
Hard by the signals of his woundH
His sacred side no more shall bearI
The cruel scourge the piercing spearJ
-
His hands are fairer to beholdK
Than diamonds set in rings of goldK
Those heav'nly hands that on the treeG
Were nailed and torn and bled for meG
-
Though once he bowed his feeble kneesB
Loaded with sins and agoniesB
Now on the throne of his commandL
His legs like marble pillars standL
-
His eyes are majesty and loveD
The eagle tempered with the doveD
No more shall trickling sorrows rollM
Through those dear windows of his soulM
-
His mouth that poured out long complaintsB
Now smiles and cheers his fainting saintsB
His countenance more graceful isB
Than Lebanon with all its treesB
-
All over glorious is my LordN
Must be beloved and yet adoredN
His worth if all the nations knewO
Sure the whole earth would love him tooO
