Rhyme Scheme: A B CDCE FGFG HIHI JKJL MNON PQLQ

The devil vanquished or Michael's war with the dragonA
-
RevB
-
Let mortal tongues attempt to singC
The wars of heav'n when Michael stoodD
Chief general of th' Eternal KingC
And fought the battles of our GodE
-
Against the dragon and his hostF
The armies of the Lord prevailG
In vain they rage in vain they boastF
Their courage sinks their weapons failG
-
Down to the earth was Satan thrownH
Down to the earth his legions fellI
Then was the trump of triumph blownH
And shook the dreadful deeps of hellI
-
Now is the hour of darkness pastJ
Christ has assum'd his reigning powerK
Behold the great accuser castJ
Down from the skies to rise no moreL
-
'Twas by thy blood immortal LambM
Thine armies trod the tempter downN
'Twas by thy word and powerful nameO
They gain'd the battle and renownN
-
Rejoice ye heav'ns let every starP
Shine with new glories round the skyQ
Saints while ye sing the heav'nly warL
Raise your Deliv'rer's name on highQ
