Hymn 48 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CDAD EFGF HICD JKLK MEKE

The Christian raceA
-
IsaB
-
Awake our souls away our fearsC
Let every trembling thought begoneD
Awake and run the heav'nly raceA
And put a cheerful courage onD
-
True 'tis a strait and thorny roadE
And mortal spirits tire and faintF
But they forget the mighty GodG
That feeds the strength of every saintF
-
Thee mighty God whose matchless powerH
Is ever new and ever youngI
And firm endures while endless yearsC
Their everlasting circles runD
-
From thee the overflowing springJ
Our souls shall drink a fresh supplyK
While such as trust their native strengthL
Shall melt away and droop and dieK
-
Swift as an eagle cuts the airM
We'll mount aloft to thine abodeE
On wings of love our souls shall flyK
Nor tire amidst the heav'nly roadE
