Hymn 38 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC BDBE FGHI JKJL MNMA

Love to GodA
-
Happy the heart where graces reignB
Where love inspires the breastC
Love is the brightest of the trainB
And strengthens all the restC
-
Knowledge alas 'tis all in vainB
And all in vain our fearD
Our stubborn sins will fight and reignB
If love be absent thereE
-
'Tis love that makes our cheerful feetF
In swift obedience moveG
The devils know and tremble tooH
But Satan cannot loveI
-
This is the grace that lives and singsJ
When faith and hope shall ceaseK
'Tis this shall strike our joyful stringsJ
In the sweet realms of blissL
-
Before we quite forsake our clayM
Or leave this dark abodeN
The wings of love bear us awayM
To see our smiling GodA
