Hymn 37 Part 1 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CDEE FGHH IIJJ KKLL HHMM NNBB OPII FGHH

Christ's humiliation exaltation and triumphA
-
Phil Mark ColB
-
The mighty frame of glorious graceC
That brightest monument of praiseD
That e'er the God of love designedE
Employs and fills my lab'ring mindE
-
Begin my soul the heav'nly songF
A burden for an angel's tongueG
When Gabriel sounds these awful thingsH
He tunes and summons all his stungsH
-
Proclaim inimitable loveI
Jesus the Lord of worlds aboveI
Puts off the beams of bright arrayJ
And veils the God in mortal clayJ
-
What black reproach defiled his nameK
When with our sins he took our shameK
He whom adoring angels blessedL
Is made the impious rebel's jestL
-
He that distributes crowns and thronesH
Hangs on a tree and bleeds and groansH
The Prince of Life resigns his breathM
The King of Glory bows to deathM
-
But see the wonders of his powerN
He triumphs in his dying hourN
And while by Satan's rage he fellB
He dashed the rising hopes of hellB
-
Thus were the hosts of death subduedO
And sin was drowned in Jesus' bloodP
Thus he arose and reigns aboveI
And conquers sinners by his loveI
-
Who shall fulfil this boundless songF
The theme surmounts an angel's tongueG
How low how vain are mortal airsH
When Gabriel's nobler harp despairsH
