Rhyme Scheme: A B CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKM NOPO

A lovely carriageA
-
MattB
-
O 'tis a lovely thing to seeC
A man of prudent heartD
Whose thoughts and lips and life agreeC
To act a useful partD
-
When envy strife and wars beginE
In little angry soulsF
Mark how the sons of peace come inE
And quench the kindling coalsF
-
Their minds are humble mild and meekG
Nor let their fury riseH
Nor passion moves their lips to speakG
Nor pride exalts their eyesH
-
Their frame is prudence mixed with loveI
Good works fulfil their dayJ
They join the serpent with the doveI
But cast the sting awayJ
-
Such was the Savior of mankindK
Such pleasures he pursuedL
His flesh and blood were all refinedK
His soul divinely goodM
-
Lord can these plants of virtue growN
In such a heart as mineO
Thy grace my nature can renewP
And make my soul like thineO
